Review: Demon Knights #1

Demon Knights #1
Issue Title: Seven Against the Dark
Written by Paul Cornell
Pencils by Diogenes Neves
Inks by Oclair Albert

Demon Knights #1 is crack for a fantasy lover.  Camelot has fallen and Merlin, in one last desperate attempt to forestall the doom of the kingdom he helped build, imbues the soul of a demon with that of a man. The story fast forwards to the Dark Ages where our Demon bound immortal squire, Jason Blood, is in league with immortal companions Madame Xanadu, Vandal Savage and the Shining Knight.

Sometimes the hardest books to write about are the ones you just flat love. Demon Knights is one such book. I’m enamored with the setting and characters as much as I am the pencils by Diogenes Neves and I dig the idea of the Questing Queen, our big bad, and the merciless baby killing trek of blood she is on. But what I love most is the largess of the world created by Paul Cornell.  This is a dangerous time to live, there is death and destruction everywhere and you feel that rich history every panel of Demon Knights. Its not all doom and gloom though. Issue one is a rollicking fantasy adventure with cool action and sharp writing.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
