The cat’s out of the bag – along with five others.
The L.A. Times reports that Gail Simone is relaunching the Secret Six title for DC Comics, premiering Dec. 3.
Although Simone would not discuss the full line-up – it is a secret six, after all – she did say that Catman, the character who became a popular antihero under Simone’s pen in Villains United, and Black Alice will be a part of the new group of “private detectives, mercenaries, bounty hunters, failed heroes.” The book will begin with the titular six strangers finding themselves trapped in a room, with no idea of how they got there.
“They instantly do not like each other, and they instantly do not get along with each other,” Simone told the L.A. Times.
The former Batgirl scribe promises the series will have a lot of “black humor and edginess.”
“It’s so fun to write these characters that are really poor role models,” she said in the interview.
The series will feature character designs and covers by Dale Eaglesham, including a new look for Catman that Simone enthuses is “so smokin’ and so dangerous-looking.” Ken Lashley, an artist Simone praised as drawing “the fiercest heroes, the creepiest villains, and that whole spectrum from Metropolis sunshine to Gotham’s deepest shadow,” will be doing interiors for the series.
Simone did reveal that her previous Tumblr statement that Catman is bisexual will be canon for this series.
“You’re going to see right away kind of what Catman’s about,” she told the L.A. Times. “I don’t want to reveal too much just because it is part of his character and part of his story to unfold these things through the story.”
Simone teased that this will be a “very dangerous, sexy book.” Her fans surely expect no less.
