Warner Bros. Moves Batman v. Superman and Announces 9 Superhero Films

Someone had to blink in the battle between Captain America 3 and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and it looks like DC/Warner Bros. has batted their eyes first. Variety has reported that the Zach Snyder directed film will move its cape and cowl from May 6. 2016 to March 25, 2016. This will assure that the film will have the highest grossing March weekend in history and allow for it to reach the full potential of gross it would have not been to achieve head to head with a film in the same genre.

In the same breath Warner Bros. also announced a slate of 9 upcoming yet to be named superhero films for the following dates:

Aug. 5, 2016: Untitled DC Film

June 23, 2017: Untitled DC Film

Nov. 17, 2017: Untitled DC Film

March 23, 2018: Untitled DC Film

July 27, 2018: Untitled DC Film

April 5, 2019: Untitled DC Film

June 14, 2019: Untitled DC Film

April 3, 2020: Untitled DC Film

June 19, 2020: Untitled DC Film

What these films may be is complete speculation, but if you remember back in May Nikki Finke predicted that DC would announce the dates for six new films that would begin to shape their cinematic universe.

“We know that Warner Bros Pictures is way behind Marvel Studios when it comes to making movies out of its comic book properties. But I have intel on what may be coming up at this July’s  Comic-Con from the studio. A lot of stuff remains in flux  but my sources have so far:

July 2016 – Shazam

Xmas 2016 – Sandman

May 2017 – Justice Leaguge

July 2017 – Wonder Woman

Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up

May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2″

We know none of this actually came to pass at SDCC, but it now seems not very far fetched and we could see announcements coming at a furious pace in the next few months. Lets break down the dates using Finke’s information and some of my own speculation.

Aug. 5, 2016: Shazam (This seems the most likely candidate here as it is the only film we’ve heard rumors (thanks to The Rock) of being close to production.

June 23, 2017: Justice League (The only announced film on DC’s slate. The film has a director in Zach Snyder and a potential writer. It currently has no date, but if rumors are true it would seem that Justice League and Batman v. Superman might be filming back to back.)

Nov. 17, 2017: Sandman (Although not in the regular DCU this film has been announced and Joseph Gordon Levitt seems to be the creative force behind it. Seem perfect for a winter release and 3 years is plenty of time to get it going.)

March 23, 2018: Wonder Woman (She’s been cast and we’ve heard Gadot’s deal includes a solo film option. Four years seems a very long time to wait, but this is the most likely spot.)

July 27, 2018: Man of Steel 2 (It’s going to happen, but with all of the other universe building it could be this far off.)

April 5, 2019: Flash/Green Lantern Team Up (It’s been rumored for so long it has to be real right?)

June 14, 2019: The Batman (We heard about this a few months ago and it seems likely. It would give Affleck room to do his own films and still be a part of this bigger plan.)

April 3, 2020: Justice League Dark (We’ve heard little about it, but Guillermo Del Toro’s film based on Constantine, Swamp Thing and the rest of the dark characters felt very tangible. With the director tied up for the next few years in Pacific Rim world this could very well be the spot.)

June 19, 2020: Justice League 2 (This is total speculation but it would seem a good capper to all the solo films. When you get this far out though there is a good chance these never happen)

What do you think is coming from DC? Did Batman v. Superman make the right move by changing its date? Sound off below!
