Happy New Year everyone! We’re back for our first show of 2013 (recorded in 2013, that is). We’ve missed you guys a ton and we’ve missed talking about our favourite Books of the Week, so that makes a triumphant return to the show and kicks things off. Some of the comics (and books) discussed include: Red She-Hulk #61, Hawkeye #6, Ender’s Game, New Avengers #1, Cow Boy: A Boy And His Horse, Justice League and Aquaman.

AND, if you’ve been following along with shows #60-62, you’ll know that our topic for this week was our favourite comics of 2012. The previous shows were all dedicated to narrowing down our nominees (with your help on the site!) and now we announce the winners of each category. Who wins what? Stephanie is [obviously] a comic book fan, but she also considers herself an avid gamer, movie watcher, lover of music, board games fan (although she doesn’t find nearly enough time for them…) and being snarky. Oh, and Twitter. Twitter’s a hobby, right? Stephanie is a purveyor of too many projects and outside of Talking Comics she’s done work for JoBlo.com, Agents of Geek, Word of the Nerd, C&G Magazine, Dork Shelf, Misfortune Cookie (her personal blog for words and pictures) and more. She also runs Toronto Geek Trivia in her home city and can be found helping out at other “geek” community things around there.

Great show as always. One of my comic resolutions for 2013 is to finally start reading some of the suggested work made on the TC podcast each week, books like Rachel Rising or the work of Jeff Lemire. I’m looking forward to reading characters that I’ve never read before and even entering entirely new universes in 2013. I’m also curious to know if the idea that all the smart people in the Marvel universe is headed toward a payoff or just a coincidence between books (Fantastic Four, Cable and the X-Force, etc.).

Here’s to another great year of comic goodness.

    Guys,
Just discovered the podcast. great show, thanks a lot. I really enjoy the talk directly on comics and not too much meandering around the edges. Also good to hear relatively informed and interestingly different opinions from a group of young guys. (I’m right there aren’t I?)

Lastly, I heard the comments on being attacked with hate mail and hate tweets.

Guys… and as young guys you know this, DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. Either twek them to get them riled up further, or ignore them totally. ANy comments you guys say will not stop them sending emails / tweets saying “I HATE YOU!”

All in all I’m glad to have found you guys and looking forward to spending 2013 with you all.

    Cheers,

    • Stephanie Cooke

This is true, but at the same time, we wanted to address the fact that we love hearing from our readers. We don’t interact with trolls when we get emails and such, but it’s always nice to encourage the other people out there to get in touch.

And your mostly right. Three young guys on the show and then me.

Thanks so much for listening to the podcast and for your words! We look forward to sharing ours with you in 2013.

Well, thank you Daryl and Stephanie!

I can’t recall the last time that Cranky Old Uncle Bob was referred to as “young”!

To your main point, Daryl; the vast majority of our inter-action with listeners/readers is over-whelmingly positive, and most of the “negatives” are just plain-old disagreements between passionate fans, which are always fun debates, and that we welcome! The 1% of 1% that might be internet muckrakers, pot-stirrers, or general troublemakers will find no purchase here. I speak for all of us in saying that we are very proud to have played a part in assembling our little Talking Comics “family”, and we’re very happy to have you on board, Daryl.

        Excelsior!
        Bob
ps) Just to warn you in advance, I may “meander” a bit tonight! rrr
