Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 08/24/16

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

This cover reminds me of those gorgeous PRISMA cards I used to get from the comic book shops back in the day. This cover is simply gorgeous!

Olympic fever is coming to an end but this cover is managing to keep me in the spirit of the games! Congrats to all of the amazing athletes of the games!

Hello God, are you there? It’s me, Barry.

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

PRETTY DEADLY vol. 2: THE BEAR (Image)

Writer: Kelly Sue DeConnick
Artist/Cover: Emma Rios

unnamed

I’ll never pass up the opportunity to highlight the work of the amazing Emma Rios!

MOON GIRL & DEVIL DINOSAUR #10 (Marvel)

Writer: Amy Reeder; Brandon Montclare
Artist: Natacha Bustos
Cover: Amy Reeder
Variant “Tsum Tsum” Cover: Joelle Jones

unnamed (1)

…or Amy Reeder, or Joelle Jones…

unnamed (2)

MISS FURY #5 (Dynamite)

Writer: Corinna Bechko
Artist: Jonathan Lau
Cover: Tula Lotay

unnamed (3)

As this series has gone on, it’s become far too supernatural to be a great Miss Fury tale, but these covers by Ms. Lotay never fail to impress!

GODZILLA: RAGE ACROSS TIME #1 (IDW)

Writer: Jeremy Robinson; Matt Frank
Artist: Matt Frank
Cover: Bob Eggleton

unnamed (4)

The power inherent in The Big “G” is more-than-evident in this spectacular cover by monster-art great Bob Eggleton! By the by, I have an Eggleton Cthulhu print hanging above my living room bookcase, and since as I type this, it’s HPL’s birthday, here’s a look:

unnamed (5)

UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #11 (Marvel)

Writer: Ryan North
Artist/Cover: Erica Henderson

unnamed (6)

Can Squirrel Girl hope to triumph over evil-doers with only her computer-y skills? I’m thinking “yes”, but “one never knows, do one”, as jazz pianist Fats Waller used to say back in the Thirties!
