DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation have officially announced their next animated film which will come after Superman: Unbound. Entitled Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, the film will be released July 30, 2013 in w Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, OnDemand, and Digital Download.
The storyline takes the 2011 DC Comics series Flashpoint by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, (which served as the impetus for the “New 52” relaunch of the DC Comics universe later that year) and brings it to fans in an animated film. Here’s Warner Bros. Animation’s official description:
“When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for The Flash and his family, the ripples of the event prove disastrous as a fractured, alternate reality now exists where a Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Teaming with a grittier, more violent Dark Knight and Cyborg, Flash races to restore the continuity of his original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans. With breath taking action and an all-star voice cast, it’s a bold, emotional vision that will forever change the landscape of the DC Universe.”
Recently, some of the voice cast were announced. Kevin Conroy leaked his return to the role of Batman in the film, and WBA confirmed that Conroy will play Bruce Wayne/Batman in the non-Flashpoint era sections of the film. Ron Perlman will be back as Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke, Dana Delany returns as Lois Lane. Vanessa Marshall, who has voiced characters such as Mary Jane Watson, Black Canary, Black Widow, Poison Ivy, and more, will be reprising her role from Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths as Wonder Woman.
Castings for the Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, and Thomas Wayne/Batman have yet to be revealed. However over the weekend it was leaked on Warner Bros. PR Gary Miereanu’s twitter account that Reverse Flash/Professor Zoom has been cast for the film.. Screen actor C. Thomas Howell, currently starring on Southland, is playing the villain from the future who has a pivotal, and surprising role in the storyline.
The tweet also leaked DC Animation director Jay Oliva’s involvement with the film, who recently directed the two-part Batman: The Dark Knight Returns animated feature. James Tucker, who took over Bruce Timm’s position as Supervising Producer for WB Animation was also mentioned in the tweet.
With the voice talent, director and producer announced for this film, it definitely appears that this project will continue down the path of success like DC’s previous animated films. What do you all think are you looking forward to this film? Who do you think should voice the remaining characters?
