DC Comics’ long-brewing “Trinity War” story line is hitting comic shop shelves this summer, and event-masterminds Geoff Johns and Jeff Lemire recently spoke with USA Today about the company’s latest Earth Shattering* Crossover.

“We really want to find and carve out the Justice League corner of the DC Universe. It is a universe all itself with these three teams, and it feels big enough to be worthy of a Justice League story…It’s going to be really interesting when these characters do come together, because some of them haven’t met, some of them have, and what happens and unfolds in this is going to force them to choose sides.”

Johns’ words there don’t shed much light on the event – the phrase “this is going to force them to choose sides” could be fairly applied to approximately 90% of DC’s and Marvel’s crossover events – but the rest of USA Today’s piece does give fans some more information. Trinity War will involve all three of DC’s Justice Leagues – Justice League, Justice League of America, and Justice League Dark – coming into conflict sparked by the death of an unidentified hero**. The Trinity War will also somehow involve DC’s “Trinity of Sin,” consisting of the mysterious Pandora, the not-so-mysterious-anymore Phantom Stranger, and the SUPER-mysterious Question. Pandora will be receiving her own series a month before Trinity War begins, and will presumably have that series cancelled a month after it ends.

Go to USA Today to read more and head to comic shops this summer to pick up Justice League #22, where this event will be kicking off.

*Earth unlikely to actually shatter. More likely to crack slightly, then get repaired via Deus Ex Machina.

**Don’t worry. Said-hero will be resurrected in next year’s Earth Shattering Crossover.
