Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 04/20/16

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our  favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

Yeah, these Joyride #1 covers excite me! They’re stylish, sleek, and are filled with color! I can’t wait to dig into this book and get to know the crew.

I’ve got to tell you, beyond the above Joyride covers, nothing else really jumped out at me for this week. What? I’m picky!

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

GODZILLA : OBLIVION #2 (IDW)

Writer: Joshua Hale Fialkov
Artist: Brian Churilla
Cover: James Stokoe

unnamed

Simply a great image of King Ghidorah, a kaiju who’s been a favorite of mine since before I knew the word kaiju!

RED SONJA #4 (Dynamite)

Writer: Marguerite Bennett
Artist: Aneke
Cover: Marguerite Sauvage

unnamed (1)

I can’t tell whether Sonja has a look that says “I will kill you in a heartbeat” or “I’ve just killed a demon, and I need some grog…and a winsome lover”, a perfect blend captured by Ms. Sauvage!

SWITCH #3 (Image/Top Cow)

Writer/Artist/Cover: Stjepan Sejic

unnamed (2)

It’s great to see this book back on the schedule, with this charming cover by Mr. Sejic the perfect re-introduction to Mary’s situation!

CAPTAIN MARVEL #4 (Marvel)

Writer: Tara Butters; Michele Fazekas
Artist/Cover: Kris Anka

unnamed (3)

I wish that I was enjoying the story and the characterizations on this book as much as I’m loving Kris Anka’s art and covers, but as an old-timer in the Carol Corps, I’m hanging in nonetheless.

LUMBERJANES #25 (Boom!)

Writer: Shannon Watters; Various
Artist: Brooke A. Allen; Various
Cover: Brooke A. Allen

unnamed (4)

It’s great to see Brooke Allen back for this anniversary issue!
