It was announced during the “Cup o’ Joe” panel at NYCC that Guardians of the Galaxy would be returning and that Nova would be getting his own solo series.
Guardians of the Galaxy will be written by Brian Michael Bendis and feature the most current team of Starlord, Groot, Rocket Racoon, Drax, and Gamora. The book will also feature a new recruit in the form of Iron Man. Taking a different approach from the past incarnations of the Guardians, Bendis plans to have the team “…tackle the threats too big for the Avengers.”
The book will launch in February with a Point One issue and officially launch with issue #1 in March.
Similarly Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness are taking a new approach the character of Nova in his upcoming solo series.
“This is Sam Alexander. He is the new Nova. Everything that happened in the Abnett and Lanning stories were so gigantic and enormous. The Nova Corps is gone. This is a story about in a very Marvel way about how an ordinary kid has something happen to him in an extraordinary way.” Loeb said during the panel.
When asked to clarify more about the new Nova series, Loeb had this to say. “I do want to emphasize — for so long, Marvel Cosmic felt like something that was way out there and there are very credible fans in Marvel Cosmic. When we sat down to first do this project, what we said is … when you look at Nova, you should look at him in the same eye you look at Spider-Man and Iron Man and Hulk. It’s not the Marvel Comics Universe, it’s the Marvel Universe.”
Focused very much on the elements of “family” and “finding who you are,” Nova looks to be an interesting series and I can’t wait to hear more about both Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy. Nova #1, like the Point One issue of GotG, will be released in February.
