O.M.A.C. #1

Title: Office Management Amidst Chaos

Written by Dan DiDio and Keith Giffen

Pencils by Keith Giffen

Inks by Scott Koblish

The success of O.M.A.C. #1  could be a litmus test of a whole genre of comic books. The industry in the modern era is built on writing story aimed towards teenagers that are bought by 40 year olds but O.M.A.C. is a book aimed squarely at 8 eight year old boys. The book’s biggest strength and its biggest weakness is how downright silly it is. DiDio shoots for, and for the most part hits, a Stan Lee and Jack Kirby atmosphere that is at its best a downright blast.

Unfortunately the book offers little in the way of substance. I don’t need this to be The Dark Knight Returns but when I decide to invest my time in a monthly story I would like to feel it will be worth my while.  That being said if I was a ten year old I would think it was pretty cool. O.M.A.C. is a towering figure with sweet cybernetic powers and a hulk like vocabulary. If you are a fan of onamonapia get ready to be very excited. Will O.M.A.C. bring kids back to comic books? Will it grab at the nostalgia of  older readers? I think it could but DiDio and co. have to step up their game.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are in on the ground floor here and everything we need is explained or not explained right here.

VERDICT

Wait and See – It is a retro style comic for kids with some good action and campy dialogue. It doesn’t tug my nostalgia bone but it could develop into something fun.
