FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #1 reminds me of what would happen if Frankenstein’s Monster had decided to swallow the red pill. After receiving a distress call from his father, Agent Frankenstein reports to The Ant Farm (a microcosm of technological absurdity), and discovers that a horde of monsters have been spotted in the tiny river town of Bone Lake, Washington. It’s now up to Frankenstein and his newly appointed Creature Commandos (eye roll) to save the day. I have to admit that I wasn’t really on board with this book until about halfway through. What came off as a convoluted explanation to a rather traditional setup seemed to have rubbed me the wrong way until later things finally began clicking into place. Rather crudely drawn it feels as if you’re looking on to someone’s very elaborate sketchpad, some of the panels appearing almost rushed or unclean. However, once the action picks up the characters and story become something worth exploring and the final page leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
We should all know who Frankenstein’s Monster is, now imagine him with a detective’s instinct and a cache of weapons for plenty of monster ass-whopping.

VERDICT
Buy It – If genetically altered movie monsters are your thing (they’re certainly mine) then totally pick this one up, it really comes together in the final pages and leaves you with a solid cliffhanger scenario.
