Review: Red Hood and the Outlaws #1

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #1

Written by Scott Lobdell

Art by Kenneth Rocafort

Former Robin Jason Todd has taken up the mantle of Red Hood, a gun-wielding vigilante. He teams up with Green Arrow’s protégé Roy Harper and Starfire (a chick I’ve really never heard of) to take care of some bad guys. I think. Despite a really cool opening sequence involving a disguised Red Hood breaking Harper out of a prison, the book flounders, offering an extended scene of the “heroes” hanging out on a beach awaiting their next course of action. There’s some business with the All Caste and the Untitled, entities that I don’t think I really care to know anything else about.

The art is just ok for me. I think we’ve seen hundred of books in the last thirty years or so that look phenomenal but offer more substance. This book is confectionary sugar with a core of horseshit.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Too much for this to be an Issue #1…

VERDICT

Avoid at all costs – this book will give you a headache in banality.
