Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 03/15/17

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

Steve Seigh’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

All-Star Batman #8

Written by Scott Snyder

Art by Giuseppe Camuncoli – Mark Morales

Variant Cover Art by Giuseppe Camuncoli

Annnnnnnd … nope!

Super Sons #2

Written by Peter J. Tomasi

Art by Jorge Jiminez

Variant Cover by Dustin Nyugen

I find it hard to resist the beauty of Dustin’s watercolor work. Also, this looks like a straight-up anime film poster and I love it.

Vampirella #1

Written by Paul Cornell

Art and Cover by Jimmy Broxton

Oof! Vampi is looking might hot in her pinup outfit, I must say. I can’t imagine that mound of severed heads smells all that great, though.

Island #15

Written by Dilraj Mann – Grim Wilkins

Art and Cover by Dilraj Mann

Consider the killer track I’ve posted below as my comment:

Mirror #6

Words, Art and Cover by Emma Rios – Hwei Lim

This cover is positively exquisite. In a way, it reminds me of something like a calligraphic zen garden.

The Mighty Thor #17

Written by Jason Aaron

Art and Cover by Russel Dauterman

Ugggghhhhh … looking at this cover make me so happy and yet so sad that I am woefully behind in my reading of The Mighty Thor. Why can’t the trades just come out already so I can catch up?

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

BATWOMAN #1 (DC)

Writer: Marguerite Bennett; James Tynion IV
Artist/Cover: Steve Epting
Variant Cover: J.G. Jones

Regular Cover by Steve Epting

Variant cover by J.G. Jones

It’s a genuine thrill to see two masters of cover art ply their talents utilizing a similar theme!

HARLEY QUINN #16 (DC)

Writer: Amanda Conner; Jimmy Palmiotti
Artist: John Timms; Joseph Michael Lisner
Cover: Amanda Conner

Speaking of thrills, how wonderful is it to see Ms. Conner draw Terra and Power Girl again! (Hey DC…how about another series for Kara by Amanda and Jimmy?)

WONDER WOMAN ’77 MEETS THE BIONIC WOMAN #3 (Dynamite/DC)

Writer: Andy Mangels
Artist: Judit Tondora
Cover: Cat Staggs

An impactful “camera angle” chosen by Ms. Staggs sets the tone for a powerful cover image of two of TV’s greatest female heroes!

BLOOD STAIN vol. 2 (Top Cow/Image)

Writer/Artist/Cover: Linda Sejic

What is our heroine Elly seeing as she tidies up Dr. Vlad Stein’s lab that has her aghast, I wonder?

PATSY WALKER a.k.a. HELLCAT #16 (Marvel)

Writer: Kate Leth
Artist/Cover: Brittney Williams

If n fact this series is coming to a end, what a perfect cover to close on, except… where’s Jen?!?

And …

Here are Bob’s picks for the week of 03/08/17

CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #13 (Marvel)

Writer: Nick Spencer
Artist: Jesus Saiz
Cover: Arthur Adams

I know that this story is going to overturn Cap’s WW II history, but I’m going to take a minute to revel in this glorious “Invaders” cover by all-time-great Arthur Adams before getting upset again.

UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL # 17 (Marvel)

Writer: Ryan North
Artist: Erica Hendersom
Variant “Venomized” Cover: Kate Leth

Uh-oh, it looks as if Tippy-Toe has gotten herself–and Doreen–into a spot of bother!

LADY KILLER 2 #4 (Dark Horse)

Writer/Artist/Cover: Joelle Jones

At this High Tea, if Josie serves you finger sandwiches, watch for the knuckles! (*rim shot^) Thanks, I’ll be here all week!

SILVER SURFER #9 (Marvel)

Writer: Dan Slott
Artist/Cover: Michael & Laura Allred

I’d say that Dawn is head-over-heels for Norrin! (*rim shot*) (Sorry, I’ll stop now.)
