Legendary Runs Episode 23: Geoff Johns’ Hawkman

It’s been a while, but we are back with a fun run from Geoff Johns. While Johns is probably most closely associated with more prominent characters like Flash, Green Lantern and Superman; he also has a talent for making characters with complex continuities more accessible. Thus is the case for Hawkman and Hawkgirl. In this series, Johns develops a new paradigm for Carter Hall’s history. He removes the dependency of the romantic affiliation with Hawkgirl, making them more friends and partners. He also acknowledges the characters complicated history, with appearances of Katar Hol, the JSA, Dr. Fate and The Atom. It’s a complicated history, but one that is easily enjoyed by any reader. We may not really have a firm grasp on what is going on, but we sure do enjoy talking about it! We hope you enjoy listening to us stumble through it.

Matt Wood is a high school English teacher in North Arkansas. His classroom is littered with comic book posters and notes about Hawthorne that are as difficult to decipher as they are to be interested in. Not Matt's fault though, Nathaniel Hawthorne…
