“The Stars of My Destination”
It’s the end of an era. The book that helped usher Robert Downey, Jr.’s Iron Man that started it all has now come to a close. Welcome to the finish line.
Matt Fraction wraps up his Eisner Award winning volume of the title with every bit of flare he started it with, bringing out all the aspects of the characters we’ve enjoyed along the way. The aftermath of the big Mandarin arc is sorted out and we’re left to wonder what will become of some of the characters. Ezekiel Stane, the dark horse villain of the hour, has proven himself a better match for Tony Stark than even the Mandarin at some points and I’d look forward to seeing more of his character in future stories. I enjoyed Stark Resilient and I hope to see those characters return again and create ideas.
Naturally the book brings out the quintessential Tony Stark. We get a lot of panels and dialogue showing off all the qualities that made us love the character and Tony gives us a send off that’s worthy of those qualities. I enjoyed the message toward the end of the book, that Tony saw the need to find a better way to advance himself and is setting out to find something better.
Thanks, Matt, for the all the fish.
