Hello, and thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!
Each and every New Comic Book Release Day is something to be excited about. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!
Steve Seigh’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week
Harley Quinn #9
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner
Art by Chad Hardin
Cover by Amanda Conner
“Oh Harley, you’re always getting into trouble. I’ll admit though, I’m a sucker for that knowing wink. Go on with your bad self, girl” – Steve Seigh
Justice League United #4
Written by Jeff Lemire
Art by Mike McKone
Cover by Emanuel Lapacchino
“I make no apologies for thinking that this cover is absolutely adorable. Sometimes girls just wanna have fun, ya know?” – Steve Seigh
Ghosted #2
Written by Joshua Williamson
Art by Miroslav Mrva, Davide Gianfelice
Cover by Dan Panosian
“I’m liking the angle of that dangle.” – Steve Seigh * Give yourself some bonus points if you caught the ‘Losers’ reference I just made.
Shutter #5
Written by Joe Keatinge
Art by Leila Del Duca
Cover by Leila Del Duca & Owen Gieni
“I’m all about that soft blue color used for this cover. I feel as if it’s sending me a subliminal messages of calm and tranquility when I look at it. It was one of the few covers this week that really made me stop in my tracks so that I can take it all in.” – Steve Seigh
The Amazing Spider-Man #5
Written by Dan Slott
Art by Humberto Ramos
Cover by Humberto Ramos & Edgar Delgado
“Over the years I’ve come to find that I’m a big Humberto Ramos fan. I can’t quite put my finger on the specifics, but something about his style calls out to me and begs me to take notice. For example, not only are those arcs of blue lightning pretty spectacular, but the puss that Black Cat has on her face is cracks me up every time I look at it. She just looks so disgusted. Ha ha ha! I dig it.” – Steve Seigh
Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week
BATGIRL #34
Writer: Gail Simone
Artist: Fernando Pasarin
Cover: Alex Garner
“This Alex Garner cover provides a perfect send-off as this is Gail Simone’s final issue on Batgirl. I’m much looking forward to the new approach, but I’m still quite sad at losing Ms. Simone’s “voice” on Barbara after all these years!” – Bob Reyer
JUSTICE LEAGUE CANADA (UNITED) #4
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Mike McKone
Variant Cover: Karl Kerschl
“As Our Ms. Cooke doesn’t usually contribute to this column, I’ll make this selection in her stead! Karl Kerschl, he of The Abominable Charles Christopher (one of Stephanie’s favorites), uses another of her passions to create the setting for this variant cover for the finale of the JLU’s Canadian adventure!” – Bob Reyer
RED SONJA #11
Writer: Gail Simone
Artist: Walter Geovani
Variant Cover: Stephanie Buscema
“What else to say about this charming cover by Ms. Buscema than “A-w–w-w-w…”?” – Bob Reyer
GODZILLA: CATACLYSM #1
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Dave Wachter
Variant Cover: Bob Eggleton
“Bob Eggleton is one of the foremost “monster artists” around, and this imagfe of the “Big G” just exudes power and majesty! I’m fortunate to have a signed, (very) limited edition print of the Great Cthulhu hanging in my sight as I type this!” – Bob Reyer
NIGHTCRAWLER #5
Writer: Chris Claremont
Artist: Todd Nauck
Cover: Jamie McKelvie
“Perhaps Kurt Wagner was better off fighting robots and sorceresses than teaching at the Jean Grey School?” – Bob Reyer
“I guess I’m on a “cute dragon” kick this week, but the cover on this new collection of Vamplets has me adding this series to the list of things to buy as Christmas gifts!” – Bob Reyer
