While fans await the return of The Amazing Spider-Man to theaters, we got a first look at how one of the villians in the upcoming sequel will appear in the film. Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx is playing the electrifying (yeah I just said that) villian and the first images of the actor in character were released via New York Daily News on Tuesday. The photos were shot at Times Square on Monday night, and indicate an early version of how the character will appear in the movie, before CGI and other after effects.
One of several classic Spidey characters who made his debut in 1964’s Amazing Spider-Man #9, is of the villains set to be introduced sequel, along with the Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and, in their first appearances since Marc Webb’s 2012 reboot, Mary Jane Watson (Shailene Woodley) and Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper).
From the appearance of Foxx’s Electro, I’m thinking that the filmmakers are going with the Ultimate Marvel Universe version of the character instead of the Earth-616 version. According to Wikipedia, the Ultimate Electro:
“…has been reimagined with powers as a product of bioengineering. Unlike his mainstream counterpart, Ultimate Electro is bald, wears a black leather outfit, and has some grotesque burn scars. As a result of experimentation by Justin Hammer, Max Dillon is given the power to control and create electricity. He is sold by Hammer to the Kingpin in exchange for a real estate development contract. When Spider-Man breaks into the Kingpin’s office, Electro electrocutes him and he, the Enforcers, and Fisk unmask him, revealing him to be a teenager. They decide to throw him out a window. Spider-Man returns and defeats him. His defeat changes Electro’s powers, making him reach a more powerful blue electrified form during which he can fly and perform greater feats…”
What do you guys think of Foxx’s Electro look? The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on May 2, 2014.
