DC COMICS
- Batman has been a solid title through its first 14 issues and with the team of Tom King and Mitch Gerads, it’s hard to not want to continue to read this title. I’m looking forward to the new arc. – Deanna
Fall and Rise of Captain Atom #1 – Cary Bates and Greg Weisman & Will Conrad
Green Lanterns #14 (Arc Conclusion) – Sam Humphries & Eduardo Pansica and Julio Ferreira
- This arc has been great with Frank Laminski being a great addition and showing that Humphries is not just relying on Geoff Johns run, but adding to it and making the rather daunting Green lanterns accessible for new readers. – Lorna
Harley Quinn #11 – Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti & John Timms
- I wanted to be excited about this book, but I am not sure if I am. Regardless, I will check it out and decide from there. Steve Orlando is great and has earned that at the very least with his great work on Midnighter and Supergirl. Nathan
- I’ll be continuing my theme of trying to check out at least the Rebirth issue of all of the new titles. I’m hoping this one gives us an enjoyable story and builds on what we know about Atom already. – Deanna
Midnighter And Apollo #4 – Steve Orlando & Fernando Blanco
- There is a reason that Steve Orlando is on the rise at DC. This was one of the best new books in 2016. The first 3 issues have been a hyper-violent, action-packed, and unabashedly queer. But at its heart, this is a story about hard-fought love that will resonate with all readers. I implore you, please give this series a shot! – Jesse
- I could not agree more with Jesse, this comic is a great blend of violence and heart and is overlooked much like the prior midnighter series by Orlando. – Lorna
Nightwing #12 – Tim Seeley and Marcus To
- Nightwing’s latest arc has been incredibly interesting thus far, with Dick back in Bludhaven and wrapped up in a group of wrongly accused former foes. Marcus To’s artwork has also been a delight, a stark departure from what came before but retaining the same breezy, light-hearted action (and plenty of gratuitous ab shots). I wouldn’t advise anyone to jump in with this particular issue but it’s worth hunting down the previous two to get quickly caught up in one of this title’s best arcs yet. -John D.
- With a dismal 2016 behind us, I’m looking forward to starting off 2017’s first new comic book week right with the latest Tomasi and Gleason Superman gem. Let’s gooooooo! -Max
- A Superman story with multiple Supermen? I’m in. I’m also excited to see New Superman with China cross over to a degree with this book. Nathan
IDW
Yakuza Demon Killers #3 – Amit Chauhan & Eli Powell
- While the debut issue was better than the second, this is still an intriguing new comics series. With so many good books coming out of DC and Image, I want to like an IDW horror comic. Here’s to hoping that this one becomes a little more consistent; so far the art has been phenomenal and haunting. -Max
IMAGE COMICS
Cannibal #4 (Arc Conclusion) – Brian Buccellato, Jennifer Young & Matias Bergara
- This was one of the new comics that caught my attention in 2016 and I’m looking forward to how they close out this first, albeit short, arc. – Deanna
Nailbiter #28 – Joshua Willamson & Mike Henderson
- This book is so good and it’s a damn shame that more people aren’t talking about it. As this arc draws to an end, Willamson is hinting at revelations we’ve been waiting years to see. – Jesse
- Remember how good Saga used to be? Guess what! Saga is still just as good. –Nate M.
- Continued excellence deserves praise! I will say it again, Saga is one of the best science fiction stories of all time. Do yourself a favor and believe the hype. – Jesse
Wicked + Divine #25 – Kieron Gillen & Jamie McKelvie
- LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS BOOK I LOVE CALLED WICKED + DIVINE AND HOW AMAZING IT IS. – Joey
MARVEL COMICS
Hawkeye #2 – Kelly Thompson & Leonardo Romero
- Thompson and Romero got off to a killer start with #1, and all signs are pointing to a run that you don’t want to miss. –Nate M.
- This series had such a fun first issue, and it looks like this will be a must-read Marvel title for me. – Deanna
- Kate Bishop is a primary character in two of my all time favorite comic book runs. So admittedly, I hold a pretty high standard for the character. That said, I didn’t love the first issue of this new series. Both the art and the writing were a little too derivative for me. But I believe in Kelly Thompson so I am going to stick around a little longer. – Jesse
- Though I’m familiar with her backstory, I’ve never read a comic book with the Wasp in it. I’ve heard about Charretier’s brilliance on the podcast before, so I’m looking forward to this one! -Max
- The preview pages by Ms. Charretier have been glorious, and knowing what Mr. Whitley’s plans are for Nadia Pym, I can’t wait to have this book in hand!–Bob
- There are several Marvel characters who have been tragically absent over the last few years. The Wasp is at the top of that list. While Janet Van Dyne definitely deserves her own series, I am excited to read the adventures of a new female character. And I am even more excited to see Jeremy Whitley writing an on-going Big 2 title. – Jesse
