The Road to SDCC: Saturday Schedule

Comic-Con LogoSaturday is the heart of San Diego Comic-Con’s programming. We’re expecting the highest volumes of attendees every hour of the convention getting the scoop on the biggest news across several media industries. Today looks like we’ll be seeing movies strike back from Friday‘s TV landslide numbers. Come see what’s hot on Saturday at SDCC!

Without further guilding the lilly, lets start our lineup with the number one slot…

  1. Marvel Studios: Iron Man 3

    Saturday July 14, 2012 6:00pm – 7:00pm @ Hall H
Producer Kevin Feige and special guests provide an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. I talked a bit about this last week and that was only the tip of the iceberg. It’s still largely unkown what will be shown or revealed during this panel but since my article we’ve had some rumors buzzing about Guardians of the Galaxy being the Marvel mystery movie. We also heard that lucky attendees will be receiving this…

  2. A little over 2000 attendees will be suiting up for this epic event.

  3. Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Preview Their Upcoming Lineups

    Saturday July 14, 2012 2:30pm – 5:00pm @ Hall H

Legendary Pictures: Pacific RimFrom acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure Pacific Rim. When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes — a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse. Pacific Rim also stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day.

Warner Bros. Pictures: Man Of Steel

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey-From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). Jackson returns to Middle-earth in an adventure that begins 60 years before the events depicted in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The first of two films adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien’s enduringly popular masterpiece, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows titular Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who-along with the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and a band of 13 Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage)-is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. The film’s ensemble cast includes Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lily, and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

Very omnious indeed how Man of Steel gets a one line description… rumor has it we might be getting to see the first trailer for the film at this event, among other footage for the projects beside it. Though I wouldn’t worry so much about catching it, being that the same Man of Steel trailer might very well be in front of The Dark Knight Rises. Estimates show a little over 1500 people plan to fly in for this event.

  4. Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

    Saturday July 14, 2012 11:30am – 12:30pm @ Hall H
The Weinstein Company presents a sneak peek at the highly anticipated new film from acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino. Fans will get to see exclusive footage from Django Unchained and take part in a special discussion with Tarantino and the cast. You won’t want to miss this!

Breaking it’s way into the top 5, Django Unchained rides in to give us the latest on Tarantino’s latest film. This promises to be a very exciting event, and it’s no surprise to see it polling as highly as it is. With a chance to question Tarantino and potentially Jaime Fox, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Christoph Waltz this event is hard to pass up! Nearly 1400 people are breaking out for this event!

  5. True Blood Panel and Q&A session

    Saturday July 14, 2012 4:30pm – 5:15pm @ Ballroom 20
Mixing romance, suspense, mystery, and humor, the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated True Blood kicked off its 12-episode fifth season June 10 on HBO. The series follows the exploits of waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts; vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer); and vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård). Oscar and Emmy Award winner Alan Ball created and serves as executive producer of the series, which is based on the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. The series and this panel also features Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse, Sam Trammell as Sam Merlotte, Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton, Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette Reynolds, Deborah Ann Woll as Jessica Hamby, Kristin Bauer van Straten as Pam Swynford De Beaufort, Joe Manganiello as Alcide Herveaux and Chris Meloni as Roman Zimojic. Moderated by Tim Stack of Entertainment Weekly.

Our very first visit to Ballroom 20 today heralds True Blood’s panel at SDCC. Bringing in a lot of the star cast this panel has been a strong mainstay at SDCC for nearly all the season the show has been running. With so many things going on during each season it’ll be interesting to see what the panelists reveal this year as TB enters it’s mid-season swing. About 1100 people are checking in for this panel.

  6. Once Upon a Time

     Saturday July 14, 2012 11:00am – 11:45am @ Ballroom 20
Magic is coming! Moderator William Keck (TV Guide Magazine senior editor and columnist) takes you to Storybrooke, where a curse placed on its fairytale inhabitants by the Evil Queen has been broken and reality and myth have merged. It’s a place where magic is about to be introduced, but with it comes its own set of consequences. Co-creators and executive producers Edward Kitsis (Lost, Tron: Legacy) and Adam Horowitz (Lost, Tron: Legacy), along with Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love), Jennifer Morrison (House), Lana Parrilla (24), Josh Dallas (Thor), Emilie de Ravin (Lost), and Meghan Ory (Vampire High) engage in a Q&A about their hit TV series.

Once Upon a Time took audiences by storm this year with it’s first season; a tall order considering the recent onset of all things fairtale and magic in the movies and television industries. It should be a real show-stopper to see what sort of tricks they might have for us during their break before the next season! Just under 1100 people are coming!

  7.

Saturday is infamous for being the most grueling day of the convention, between waiting in the long line for Hall H and having the endurance to survive in it you’d have to be your own super hero. The pay off though is being able to say you were there to some of the best news that can be served from SDCC. As expected the numbers for Hall H reach critical levels, approximately 2000 people for the last panel of the day, so there is no other option but to arrive very early to be able to secure a seat. Think you’re up to the challenge? Sound off in the comments to share your plans for the big day!
