Legendary Runs Episode 36: John Byrne’s Uncanny X-Men (Part 1)

The Run: Uncanny X-Men: 108-109, 111-128

This was such a jam packed episode that we had to split it in half. Part one covers everything leading up the the fabled Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past. For those listeners that are just downloading for that, I’m sorry. You will have to eat your vegetables before your get your dessert. The good news is not only are the vegetables delicious, but your dessert will arrive in just seven days. That’s right, X-fans and Legendary Runners, for the next three weeks you will get back to back to back episode of the podcast. On top of all of that, we will be joined by friend of the show and X-Men fanatic Brian Keohan from Conway Comics!
All of that excellence aside, we are talking about one of the most important collaborations in comic book history. When John Byrne collaborated with Chris Claremont after the successful relaunch of the X-Men line in the late seventies, a magic was created whose repercussions can still be felt today. It was a lot of fun to talk about and maybe even more fun reading. This is an incredibly special group of episodes.

And the fun isn’t going to end with Byrne. After part two of the Byrne episode is released, we team up with Brian once again for a look at a different kind of X-Artist: Bill Sienkiewicz’s New Mutants! (New Mutants 18-31, 35-38)

Matt Wood is a high school English teacher in North Arkansas. His classroom is littered with comic book posters and notes about Hawthorne that are as difficult to decipher as they are to be interested in. Not Matt's fault though, Nathaniel Hawthorne…
