Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 02/22/17

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

Loose Ends #2

Written by Jason Latour

Art and Cover by Chris Brunner – Rico Renzi

I’m really digging all the different mediums being used to create this cover. Whether it’s the “finished” look toward the bottom portion, or the scribble and scratch motif toward the top, this is good, fun stuff.

Elektra #1

Written by Matt Owens

Art by Alec Morgan

Baby Variant Cover by Skottie Young

I will never tire of Skottie Young’s Baby Covers, this one is particularly adorable. Would you just look at that smile? She’s so proud!

Extraordinary X-Men #19

Written by Jeff Lemire

Art by Victor Ibanez

Incentive Cover by Ben Caldwell

Is it just me or is this cover crooked? Regardless, I really love the colors and character designs here.

Slam #4

Written by Pamela Ribon

Art by Veronica Fish

Incentive Cover by Audrey Mok

If you’re not reading SLAM, you really should be. This is a wonderful series (which features a fantastic cover) about friendship, dedication, and smashing through insecurities.

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

SCARLET WITCH #15 (Marvel)

Writer: James Robinson
Artist: Shawn Crystal
Cover: David Aja

Even as each issue or short arc featured a new artist, this fabulous book has featured the unifying threads of a great sense of the character by James Robinson and these beautiful covers by David Aja!

CLEAN ROOM #16 (DC)

Writer: Gail Simone
Artist: Walter Geovani
Cover: Jenny Frison

On second thought Mr. President, I believe that I’ll withdraw the question if you don’t mind.

AVENGERS (vol. 6) #4.1 (Marvel)

Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Barry Kitson
Variant Cover: Michael & Laura Allred

I have to admit to trade-waiting on this series; not because I haven’t loved what I’ve read, but because I’m hoping there’ll be a “Cover Gallery” featuring the variants!

BATMAN ’66 MEETS WONDER WOMAN ’77 (DC)

Writer: Marc Andreyko; Jeff Parker
Artist: David Hahn; Karl Kesel
Cover: Michael & Laura Allred

No reason needed beyond… THE ALLREDS! (Sorry for yelling–rrr)

MOON GIRL & DEVIL DINOSAUR #16 (Marvel)

Writer: Amy Reeder; Brandon Montclare
Artist: Natacha Bustos
Cover: Amy Reeder

I mean…AMY REEDER!! (Again, my apologies for the volume level–rrr)

SUPERGIRL: BEING SUPER #2 (DC)

Writer: Mariko Tamaki
Artist/Cover: Joelle Jones

See previous entry, except substitute JOELLE JONES!! (My continued apologies–rrr)

Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week Soundtrack

This week’s track comes from the band Lemuria. I just discovered their sound last week and I’m really digging it. I might even pony up the dough for an album or two in the coming days. Check them out and enjoy!

That’s all, folks! Join us next week for another round of covers and an avalanche of incredible cover art!
