Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 12/21/16

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our  favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

Invincible Iron Man #2

Awwww yeah, how could I not include this sweet Monn Girl-inspired cover?

Harley Quinn #1

Who doesn’t love an homage to the world-famous Coppetone baby?

Gamora #1

Written by Nicole Perlman

Art by Marco Checchetto

Incentive Cover by Tula Lotay

Oh man, I love Lotay’s style so much. There’ almost this sort of “buzz” or hum” to the motion of her lines. It brings everything to life.

Art by Veronica Fish

Natacha Bustos Virgin Variant Cover

I can’t hear the title of this comic without Onyx’s “Slam!” popping into my head.

Jem and the Misfits #1

Written by Kelly Thompson

Art by Jenn St Onge

Incentive Cover by George Caltssoudas

And then there’s this gorgeous cover by Pascal Campion XCI

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

SPIDER-GWEN #15 (Marvel)

Writer: Jason Latour
Artist/Cover: Robbi Rodriguez

A stunning and to-the-story cover by the singular Mr. Rodriguez!

Writer: Dan Slott
Artist/Cover: Michael & Laura Allred

A word of advice: try not to over-eat during the holidays!

Writer: Amanda Conner; Jimmy Palmiotti
Artist: Moritat; Bret Blevins; Joseph Michael Lisner
Cover: Amanda Conner

Based on the look on Batman’s face, I’d say that he has Harley on his “Naughty” list!

ULTIMATES 2 #2 (Marvel)

Writer: Al Ewing
Artist: Travel Foreman
Cover: Christian Ward
Variant Cover: Marco Rudy

I couldn’t decide between these two striking images, so…

Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist/Cover: Chris Bachalo

“I’ve got my eye on you!”

Writer: Margaret Stohl
Artist: Ramon Rosanas
Cover: Elizabeth Torque

This affecting image by Ms. Torque suggests that Carol has perhaps taken to heart those hard lessons learned during the super-hero Civil War!

Writer: David F. Walker
Artist: Scott Hepburn
Variant Cover: Trevor Von Eeden

Luke and Danny sharing a “Sweet Christmas” moment–I’m in!
