Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 09/21/16

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

GREEN LANTERNS #7 (DC)

Writer: Sam Humphries
Artist: Jackson Herbert
Cover: Emanuela Lupacchino

I loved Ms, Lupacchino’s work on Starfire, so this playful cover is a natural for me to include!

REVOLUTION #1 (IDW)

Writer: Cullen Bunn; John Barber
Artist: Fico Ossio
Variant Cover: John Byrne

unnamed-1

With a cast of characters including so many of IDW’s licensed properties, who better to bring them all to life than the legendary John Byrne?

MIGHTY THOR #11 (Marvel)

Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist/Cover: Russell Dauterman

unnamed-2

Nope, I can’t figure it out either, but I do want to see what lies behind this gorgeous cover!

KNIGHTS OF THE DINNER TABLE (Kenzer & Company)

Writer/Artist/Cover: Jolly Blackburn

unnamed-3

I’m a sucker for a great homage, so here’s Avengers #57…

unnamed-4

…which is one of the greatest covers of all time, thanks to the magnificent work of Big John Buscema!

GRIZZLY SHARK vol. 1 TPB (Image)

Writer/Artist/Cover: Ryan Ottley

unnamed-5

Just when you thought it was safe to back into the comics store…

To go on a huge digression, I think that one of the great tag-lines in B-movie history is a riff on that one I just quoted from “Jaws 2”, and is on the one-sheet seen below:
