X’ed #4 – Tony Patrick & Doug Garbark, Ayhan Hayrula
- I love everything I’ve read from Black Mask Studios. That said, a lot of their books saw major delays in 2016. This series kicked off in Dec of 2015, but this is only the 4th issue. Despite the strange release schedule, this book is fantastic. Its creepy, gross and psychedelic. There’s not much to catch up on and this one is totally worth your time. – Jesse
BOOM! STUDIOS
- Finally…WWE is back in the book game. What seemed like a lifetime ago now, the prelude chapter (WWE: Then. Now. Forever #1) gave us a great taste of what’s to come in this ongoing series revolving around an actual WWE storyline from a few year’s back, but retold with some comic book flourishes that are sure to be entertaining as all get out. Even if you’re not the biggest fan of the squared circle, it’s worth checking this first issue out to see what a WWE comic book can do. Who knows, you might surprise yourself and love it. –John D.

- Superman started to take on a larger scope in the last issue, with some pretty serious implications. I’m looking to see where the creative team takes this storyline, as they’re balancing the same playfulness that audience love this series for with some darker elements. – Max
Trinity #5 – Francis Manapul
- We need to talk about Trinity. Francis Manapul has been absolutely killing both the story and the art on this book. Every issue has been more beautiful and heartfelt than the last. Manapul has a firm understanding of DC character history and he is treating each of these characters with the reverence they deserve. Get caught up on this series, it is well-worth your time. – Jesse
- This has been a fantastic series so far, worthy of the same kind of love that Superman and Wonder Woman receive en masse. I’ll echo Jesse’s sentiment that Manapul understands the core of each member of the trinity. Additionally, his unique art style is a breath of fresh air. This comic fun, true to its characters and beautiful. It’s still early enough to get caught up! – Max

All-New X-Men #17 – Dennis Hopeless & Mark Bagley
- Dennis Hopeless is a terrific writer who has a great handle on teenage characters. So it’s a real shame that event juggling affected the pace of this run. That aside, one element of this story has been great since issue number one; Little Gay Iceman! Hopeless has done a phenomenal job walking teenage Bobby Drake through the early stages of his coming out process. It has been awkward, adorable perfection. He has set a new tone for this character and I hope to see it continue. – Jesse
The Avengers #3.1 – Mark Waid & Barry Kitson
Cage #4 (of 4) – Genndy Tartakovsky
- I enjoyed the #0 issue of Margaret Stohl’s take on Carol Danvers, but this is coming from someone that read very little of the character at all. I have hopes that this title will revert Carol back to the way she was (from what I understand, Civil War II ruined her) in time for the major Marvel movie to be released and Captain Marvel fever to take hold of the mainstream. –John D.
- No tea, No shade. I totally support bringing outside talent into the industry, look no further than Chelsea Cain. However, I don’t think that Captain Marvel should be a cut-your-teeth title. So it pains me a bit that Marvel has put another new comic writer on this book. The 0 issue was a solid first effort from Stohl but it had pacing issues and cumbersome dialog. I plan to stick around but I really wish my hero was in more experienced hands. – Jesse
Spider-Gwen #16 – Jason Latour & Robbi Rodriguez
- Normally, I’m not a huge fan of crossovers, but since last week’s Spider-Man #12 got me excited for Miles Morales once again (it feels like a lifetime since that happened), I’m on board with checking out this brief three-month crossover with Spider-Gwen. Besides, anything that can make me check out Spider-Gwen again can’t be all bad. It was one of those books that unfortunately got the axe from my pull list just do to an overwhelming amount of quality books on the stands, but I’m ready to jump back in with this insane alternate universe. –John D.
