Legendary Runs Episode Nine: Steve Ditko and Stan Lee’s Amazing Spider-Man

In this episode more than others, we focus on an artists’ run of a series as opposed to a team or a writer. While the first 38 issues of Amazingimage1 (18) Spider-Man definitely were a collaboration between Ditko and Lee, our episode is dedicated to the artist’s contribution. Not only is Steve Ditko’s Amazing Spider-Man a showcase of his very captivating and personal artistic style, it is also considered one of the most important tenures on any comic book series. It delivers numerous classic stories that introduces one of the best superhero rouges galleries as well as some of the greatest secondary characters. Had Ditko with Lee not produced Spider-Man together, who knows where comics would be today, if they would have existed at all.
This episode covers Amazing Fantasy #15, Amazing Spider-Man #1-15, Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1, Amazing Spider-Man #16-28, Amazing Spider-Man Annual 2, Amazing Spider-Man #29-38.
Make sure to check out our next episode as we explore the gritty streets of Gotham in Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka and Michael Lark’s Gotham Central.

Matt Wood is a high school English teacher in North Arkansas. His classroom is littered with comic book posters and notes about Hawthorne that are as difficult to decipher as they are to be interested in. Not Matt's fault though, Nathaniel Hawthorne…
