Happy Will Eisner Week!

Celebrate with us Will Eisner Week and Honour an Amazing Creator! Starting from March 1 to March 7!

Celebrate Will Eisner Week! What is Will Eisner Week? It is an annual event that lasts a week when we celebrate the creator of one of the signature modems on which comics are delivered: Graphic Novels! It includes Will Eisner’s birthday on March 6th. This is an important date for the fact that this is a reminder of a great man and great way of reading comics, especially if you want to catch up to an industry that has been around since the 1930s. However, that is not the only area of celebration for this week. We celebrate Free Speech, Comic books, literacy, and the “Father of Graphic Novels” himself! Because comics was and still is to an extent an expression of social context including construct, dissent, and revolution.

Who is the Will Eisner? He was a Jewish American artist and writer. He was one of the earliest creators in the comic book industry and has revolutionized the methodology of delivery with his book A Contract with God. Eisner was one of the first to teach comics as a formal area of study producing many books like: Comics and Sequential Art, Graphic Storytelling and Visual Narrative, and Expressive Anatomy for Comics and Narrative: Principles and Practices from the Legendary Cartoonist. He is the inspiration behind the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, also known as Eisner Awards. These prizes are given to celebrate the creative achievements of the people in the industry as well as the works!

How do you celebrate Will Eisner Week? Grab the closest graphic novel to you and read the love out of it. There are multiple events happening at different places, if you want to celebrate with your community (Check here if there is one near you). Read Will Eisner’s works. If you don’t want to read his educational books, there are many more you could explore like The Spirit, A Contract with God, Fagin the Je
w
, To the Heart of the Storm
and many more! Will EisnerIf that is not enough, explore the history of comic books and read beyond the creator of DC and Marvel and see the origins of Comics! Or Read Eisner Award winning comics (see 2010s, 2000s, 1990s, and 1980s). The books and creators vary in every way possible and they are stories and creations worth reading! Finally, for the creators out there, pull out your sketchbook and dedicate something to this great man in our industry!
