Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 02/03/16

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our  favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

Mirror #1

Written by Emma Rios

Art and Cover by Hwei Lim

This is without a doubt my most anticipated book coming out this week! I can only imagine what Ms. Emma Rios’ pen will share with us, this time around, seeing as it’s being used to write words rather than draw pictures. Can’t wait!

Ms. Rios has chosen an artist for this series who, although in a lighter vein, still shares some of the ability to meld “beautiful” and “scary”! – Bob Reyer

A-Force #2

Written by G. WIllow Wilson – Kelly Thompson

Art and Cover by Jorge Molina

Oh wow! Check out the gorgeous soft color palette of this cover. Marvel at the intricate detail of the city in the background. I love it! Also, I’m totally hungry now and crazing some Asian yumminess.

Hard to believe, but Jorge Molina’s art seems to have gone to new heights! (As an aside, I’ve never been to Japan, but I’m hoping that in the Tourist Guide that they make some mention of the seemingly every-day appearance of giant monsters?)

By the way, check out this variant by Joelle Jones of Lady Killer reknown:

Howard the Duck #4

Written by Chip Zdarsky – Christopher Hastings

Art by Danilo Beyruth – Joe Quinones

Cover by Kamonme Shirahama

Ahhhhhhhhh! This is probably my favorite cover of the year so far! Look at all the plushy cuteness! LOOK AT IT!

Spider-Man #1

Written by Brian Michael Bendis

Art by Sara Pichelli

Cover by Michael Cho

Awwwww yeah! Miles is back and he’s looking slick as can be on this snazzy comic book cover! Bring it on, dude! You’ve more than earned it!

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

MYSTERY GIRL #3 (Dark Horse)

Writer: Paul Tobin
Artist/Cover: Alberto Alburquerque

unnamed

Now, I know that wolves are a fairly endangered species, but I’m thinking that Trine, our “Mystery Girl” might find herself on the other side of the ledger!

DETECTIVE COMICS #49 (DC)

Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Artist: Fernando Pasarin
Variant Cover: Neal Adams

unnamed (1)

Wow! It’s great to see that legendary artist Neal Adams hasn’t lost anything off his fastball, isn’t it? (Mr. Adams has a bunch of these this month, so keep a look-out!)

DEJAH THORIS #1 (Dynamite)

Writer: Frank J. Barbiere
Artist: Francesco Manna
Variant Cover: Nicola Scott

unnamed (2)

The re-imagining of Dynamite’s heroines continues, as the amazing Nicola Scott (Black Magick; Birds of Prey) lends her talents to this stunning update of the Princess of Mars!

PRETTY DEADLY #8 (Image)

Writer: Kelly Sue DeConnick
Artist/Cover: Emma Rios

unnamed (3)

As always, Emma Rios never fails to deliver absolutely spectacular work on the covers for this series, ones that never fail in delivering an emotional punch!

HOWARD THE DUCK #4 (Marvel)

Writer: Chip Zdarsky; Christopher Hastings
Artist: Joe Quinones; Danillo Beyruth
Cover: Joe Quinones; Kevin Wada

unnamed (5)

Howard does look to be in a spot of bother, but If Squirrel Girl can overcome the Devourer of Worlds, perhaps our Mr. Duck has a chance?
