Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 08/19/15
Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!
You’ve got to admit, New Comic Book Release Day is pretty much the best day of the week. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

Giant Days #6
Written by John Allison
Art and Cover by Lisa Treiman
UGHF! This cover! I LOVE it! Drop that mic, like you do every issue, girl!
Written by Mark Waid
Art and Cover by Fiona Staples
Wow! Look at the way the sunlight falls upon our beautiful Betty! Fiona Staples really knows how to bring these characters to life in a new light!
Doctor Fate #3
Written by Paul Levitz
Art by Sonny Liew
Cover by Ibrahim Moustafa
Is anyone else getting a “Mask” vibe from this? Remember the scene where Stanley throws the mask off the bridge? Anyway, I love the colorful aura surrounding the masks as it sinks into the murky sea.
Welcome Back #1
Written by Christopher Sebela
Art by Jonathan Brandon Sawyer
Cover by Jonathan Brandon Sawyer and James Harvey
Okay, so the plethora of pockets might be a bit much, but I’m loving that hot pink on black and white combo happening here.

I don’t know about you, but I’d welcome a beautiful creature such as this to drag my down to the briny depths of the ocean for a coiled, drowning embrace.
The Mantle #4
Written by Ed Brisson
Art and Cover by Brian Level
Meow meow meow. Meow meow, meow meow meow meow. Meow. You feel me?

SECRET SIX #5 (DC)
Writer: Gail Simone
Artist/Cover: Dale Eaglesham
As they said on the poster for the 80s horror flick “Blood Beach”:
“Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water,,,you can’t get there!”
WONDER WOMAN OMNIBUS VOL.1 (DC)
Writer/Artist/Cover: George Perez
I’ve often said around these parts that Mr. Perez set the modern standard for Wonder Woman, so it’s grand that these stories are coming back into print, and behind the iconic cover for the first issue of his run, although the original was a wrap-around:
RAT QUEENS #11 (Image)
Writer: Kurtis Wiebe
Artist/Cover: Stjepan Sejic
With this amazing cover, Stjepan Sejic puts his flag in the ground as the new artist on Rat Queens!
GUARDIANS TEAM-UP #10 (Marvel)
Writer: Tim Seeley
Artist/Cover; Mike Norton
If you stare at this long enough, it is kinda like “E.T.”… provided you’ve done a whole bunch of shots!
SECRET WARS: SECRET LOVE #1 (Marvel)
Writer: Jeremy Whitley; various
Cover: David Nakayama
How could I resist a cover that has this as a solicitation:
“When worlds collide, can their love survive?”
PRINCELESS: RAVEN, THE PIRATE PRINCESS (Action Lab)
Writer: Jeremy Whitley
Artist/Variant Cover: Rosy Higgins; Ted Brandt
I surely agree with the sentiments expressed on this cover by Ms. Higgins & Mr. Brandt, and of course, Mr. Whitley, as well!
