Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 03/04/15

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

Each and every New Comic Book Release Day is a blessing. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our  favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

“FALCON PUNCH!”

Wolf Moon #4

Written by Cullen Bunn

Art by Jeremy Haun

Cover by Leandro Fernandez

I’m seriously digging the ferociousness of this cover. And is that watercolor or oils, do you think? Whatever it might be, I love the way it appears to seep into the canvas and saturate the negative space of the art.

Princess Leia #1

Written by Mark Waid

Art by Terry Dodson

Variant Cover by Skottie Young

There came a point some time last year when a select number of folks got bored of these “gimmicky” Skottie Young variant cover. I am not one of those people. I love his art, and I love that smirk on Leia’s face. Add to that the boldness of those colors and you’ve got a cover that won’t be straying toward the dark side any time soon.

Spider-Woman #5

Written by Dennis Hopeless

Art and Cover by Javier Rodriguez

Yes! Yes, yes, yes! I’m so ready for this book to hand over the art to Javier Rodriguez. It got off to a bumpy start, but this book really came into it’s own in the second half of issue #4. I really hope that this fresh new look turns some heads, and that Jess gets her shot at having a lasting solo series.

Nailbiter/Hack Slash Crossover One-Shot

Written by Joshua Williamson and Tim Seeley

Art by Mike Henderson and Emilio Laiso

Cover by Tim Seeley and Mike Henderson

Awwww yeah! I’ve been waiting for this crossover! How could I not love a cover featuring this gruesome twosome?

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

LADY KILLER #3 (Dark Horse)

unnamed

I think that I’ll pass on having the punch, thank you!

HARLEY QUINN #15 (DC)

Writer: Amanda Conner; Jimmy Palmiotti

Artist; Chad Hardin

Cover: Amanda Conner

unnamed (1)

Based on this cover by the amazing Amanda Conner, it looks as if our gal Harley has gone even further over the edge; how that’s even possible, I d be at a loss to explain, but I’m going to love finding out!

MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDS FOREVER (IDW)

Writer: Jeremy Whitley

Artist/Variant Cover: Agnes Garbowska

unnamed (2)

Pony private eyes in fedoras…I’m in!

HAWKEYE #1 (Marvel)

Writer: Jeff Lemire

Artist: Ramon Perez

Variant Cover: Sho Murase

unnamed (3)

Speaking of private eyes, this variant cover by Sho Murase has the feel of a mid-Sixties detective novel!

OPERATION S.I.N. #3 (Marvel)

Writer: Kathryn Immonen

Artist: Rich Ellis

Cover: Michael Komarck

unnamed (4)

It looks as if I’ve hit upon a theme, as this “back in the day” cover falls right in line with the rest!

SPIDER-WOMAN #5 (Marvel)

Writer: Dennis Hopeless

Artist: Javier Rodriguez

Variant Cover: Kris Anka

unnamed (5)

I know that this is more of a poster than a cover, but I love this”spec sheet” by Kris Anka!

HERO CATS #4 (Action Lab)

Writer: Kyle Putt Kammer

Artist/Cover: Marcus Williams

unnamed (6)

Finally, I’ve chosen this cover in hopes that Ms. Stephanie Cooke’s ailing feline friend Kaylee will see it and perhaps have her spirits raised!
