DC comics today announced that the ‘New 52,’ initiative will effectively end once the ‘Convergence’ event hits. Story continuity will remain, but a greater emphasis on “storytelling will trump continuity” will be the new approach according to DC Comics as well as a “more inclusive and accessible line-up” of books.

Along with this news, DC Comics shared news that 24 new titles will be starting, alongside 25 books that will continue where they leave off when they reach ‘Convergence’ and continue with their original numbering.

DC also announced their Free Comic Book Day offering, called ‘Divergence’ it will feature previews for the June issues of ‘Batman’ by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, ‘Justice League’ by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok which will feature the Darkseid War and Superman by Gene Luen Yang and John Romita, Jr.

Brian Hitch ongoing JLA? My money is on 6 issues before he’s sharing writing writing duties and off art by issue 5.

Mistic U and Justice League United artists TBD? so it can’t even be called “creator-driven”, does that make it “spreadsheet-driven”?

This is pretty exciting. Of the 25 continuing ongoings that I’m currently picking up, I’m seriously considering dropping most of them for the new 24 series announced. It’s nice to see DC come out and not only say that they WANT to diversify, but also show HOW they’re going to do it. Hopefully these new titles can stay alive unlike the cancelled titles at the beginning of the New 52
