Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week 02/04/14

Hey, thanks for checking out Talking Comics: Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week!

Each and every New Comic Book Release Day is a blessing. It’s the day we’re introduced to new worlds, are able to witness the next chapter in a continuing saga, or fall in love with a character or creator for the first time. I could go on and on, but I think you’ve already gotten my point. That point being … comics are awesome. So awesome in fact that even the covers of them are often times incredible works of art. We’re here to show you some of our  favorite covers each week! So go ahead and take a few moments for yourself (haven’t you earned it?) and feast your eyes on some truly inspired comic book covers!

So without further or due let’s get this week’s selections highlighted!

Hellboy and the BPRD #3

Would you look at those beautiful colors! I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a Hellboy cover that was so vibrant, and dare I say, cheerful? I like it.

Grayson #7

Written by Tim Seeley & Tom King

Art by Mikel Janin

Variant Cover by Dan Panosian

Danger, action, adventure! This cover has got it all and continues to remind me that I’m a fool for having dropped Grayson from my pull list. I suppose that I can always pick up the trade … in like, a year or so, once it’s finally released.

Sheltered #14

Written by Ed Brisson

Art and Cover by John Christmas

SHELTERED_14

Oh man, I can’t believe this series is almost over. What are we, one issue away from the finale? If I could have one comic book wish for the year, it would be that this series finds a way to continue on, doing great things.

Angela Asgards Assassin #3

Written by Kieron Gillen & Marguerite Bennett

Art by Phil Jimenez and Stephanie Hans

Cover by Stephanie Hans

Anyone who listens to the Talking Comics podcast knows that Stephanie Hans is one of my all-time favorite comic book artists, and just when I think I’ve seen it all from her she goes and drops this cover on us. Look at those colors, those lines, that menace! I love this absurdly talented woman!

Ant-Man #2

Written by Nick Spencer

Art by Ramon Rosanas

Cover by Mark Brooks

I need this for my snow globe collection in the worst way! I’m just kidding, I don’t really have a snow globe collection … that I’m prepared to share with you. Shhhhh ….

Bob Reyer’s Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week

LADY KILLER (Dark Horse)

Writer: Joelle Jones; James Rich

Artist/Cover: Joelle Jones

unnamed

Could even Mr. Clean, the leading cleanser of the “Mad Men” era, possibly get all that blood out of the trunk?

MS. MARVEL #11 (Marvel)

Writer: G. Willow Wilson

Artist: Adrian Alphona

Cover: Kris Anka

unnamed (1)

A very introspective-looking Kamala graces this atmospheric cover by Kris Anka.

OPERATION S.I.N. #2 (Marvel)

Writer: Kathryn Immonen

Artist/Cover: Rich Ellis

unnamed (2)

I’m a push-over for covers that resemble old movie posters, and this fits that bill to a “T”!

UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #2 (Marvel)

Writer: Ryan North

Artist/Cover: Erica Henderson

unnamed (3)

“Surf’s up!” for Squirrel Girl and Tippy Toe! Are they going to be able to “hang thirty”, or will that dreaded ho-dad Galactus cause them to wipe out?

HAWKEYE #21 (Marvel)

Writer: Matt Fraction

Artist/Cover: David Aja

unnamed (4)

With this book on “death watch”, let me say ahead of time that I will surely miss these amazing covers by David Aja!

Favorite Comic Book Covers of the Week Soundtrack

Okay, so I know that I’m a little late to the game on this one but WOW! Sia is quite the talent, but that Maddie Ziegler is a marvel! I love her crazy dance moves, expressive crazy eyes, and the raw passion for dance that flows through her every move. Below, you’ll find Sia‘s video for her song “Chandelier“, and I highly recommend that you take a few moments to view it.

That’s all, folks! Join us next week for another round of covers and an avalanche of incredible cover art!
