Image Launches Print Subscription Service

By Courtney Key

Print readers of Image Comics in the continental United States will now have the option of getting their favorite titles mailed to their door via the company’s new subscription service Image Direct, according to a press release sent out by the company today.

The Walking Dead is one of the many popular Image comics available via its new subscription model.
The Walking Dead is one of the many popular Image comics available via its new subscription model.

Image Direct promises to allow subscribers to receive the latest issues of over 35 of Image’s most popular titles for discounts of up to 30% off the cover price. Books available include Saga, The Walking Dead, Sex Criminals, Wytches, The Wicked and The Divine, East of West, Black Science, and Rat Queens. Additionally, customers who subscribe to every title will receive 35% off the cover price.

Eric Stephenson, Image’s Publisher, said that “Even with all the wonderful work our retailer partners in the Direct Market do, the number one comment we get from fans is they frequently can’t find the Image titles they’re looking for. Given that there are fewer comic book stores than ever before, we’re hoping that Image Direct makes our titles available to fans who don’t have easy access to a local comic book store, or whose shop doesn’t carry the full range of Image titles.”

Subscribers will receive the common cover, or Cover A, for all titles to which they subscribe. According to the Image Direct website’s FAQ, all books will be shipped during the last week of the month, meaning customers will not receive their books the same day as the books arrive in stores or on digital.

What do you think of the new service? Will you be switching to this model, or will you stay with your local shop or digital subscription? Let us know in the comments!
