We are only a couple days away from June and June means summer and summer means… ummmm… HEAT! It also means big blockbuster movies, comic convention season AND a whole mess of comics that we’re all excited for. We discuss our picks that’ll help keep your mind off of the heat this summer, so stay tuned and listen to what we’ve selected and let us know which ones YOU’RE excited for.

Of course, we get to our Summer Comic Preview after some witty banter (ha ha ha!) and our Books of the Week. Some of the included titles are: Fantastic Four, Fearless Defenders A.U., Steed and Mrs. Peel, Hilda and the Midnight Giant, Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant, Half Past Danger, Daredevil and the end of Geoff Johns epic run on Green Lantern.

Annnnnnnnnnd… we say it on the show, but just in case you missed it, the Talking Comics crew on Twitter are:

Bobby: @bobbyshortle
Steve: @dead_anchoress
Stephanie: @hellocookie
And Bob’s email is bobreyer@talkingcomicbooks.com

FYI: the crew have gone all superhero on the world, thanks to the wonderful Hanie Mohd. Like them? Make sure to follow her and let us know what you think of our new superhero pictures.

The Comic Book Podcast is brought to you by Talking Comics (www.talkingcomicbooks.com), a blog dedicated to covering the latest and greatest in comic book releases. The editorial staff is composed of Editor-in-Chief Bobby Shortle (Fanboy Remix, Doctor Whocast), Stephanie Cooke (Misfortune Cookie) and Steve Seigh (JoBlo.com contributor) who weekly dissect the releases and give you, the consumer, a simple Roman yay or nay regarding them. Just wanted to tip my hat to you guys – I’ve now past just over a year back into reading and collecting comics after a 25 year break (400+ issues and many trade paperbacks in that year – I guess you can say that I am addicted again). With the help of the awesome staff of my local comic book store (last week they bestowed me the honor of putting my name on their wall which allows me to choose any comic I’d recommend – when I stop there tomorrow I’ll take a pic!) they put me on the path of getting acclimated to the comic world again. Once I had my footing I went out looking for some extra help in the form of podcasts and got hooked on you guys!

Your picks have been spot on – Bob keeping me with “The High-Ways,” Steve making sure I spent my birthday money on an explosion of Loeb/Sale books that were superb, and everyone with getting me to read X-Factor (even though it is now leaving us).

For anyone looking to get back into the Marvel world – get a Marvel Universe subscription and start with X-Factor #1 from 2005. This has brought me to House of M, Decimation, Civil War, and more. X-Factor has been my gateway to getting up to speed with every Marvel event of the past 7 years that I missed (I came into A vs X midstream last year when I started up again). X-Factor has mutants I never read before and has been a great recommendation from Talking Comics.

Thanks for the site and podcast again! Can’t wait to listen to today’s episode and see what to prep for over the summer. I’m looking forward to “The Wake” this week.

Great summer preview, everyone. I always find out about books too late and wind up missing them, so this was a nice reminder of what is coming up. I’m happy to hear Steve mention True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys as that is one of my most anticipated books. If you haven’t watched them already, the music videos for the My Chemical Romance songs “Na Na Na” and “Sing” are prequels to this comic story, and feature Grant Morrison as the villain.
