Warning. There are possibly massive spoilers for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 as well as a comic story that came out in the 70s. You have been warned.

Thanks to The Daily Mail, the internet was treated to some more Amazing Spider-Man 2 set photos today. The photos however may hint at a huge potential spoiler that will happen in the movie.

If the outfit that Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy has on looks familiar or puts a pit in your stomach it may be because she is wearing an outfit eerily similar to the one that comic book Gwen Stacy was wearing the day that she died way back in Amazing Spider-Man #121. It has been speculated for a while that the ASM films would be including “The Night Gwen Stacy Died” storyline and it appears director Marc Webb may be bringing that story to fruition earlier than we thought.

Night Gwen Stacy Died

One hopes that Webb might just be having fun with long-time Spidey comic fans but the fact that Stone as Gwen is dressed like that and standing near (presumably) the Brooklyn Bridge it doesn’t seem like things will end well for her.

What do you think? Is Gwen’s fate sealed or is there a chance that Webb will throw a curve-ball? Sound off in the comments below.

I’d like to hope marvel wouldn’t make such a huge spoiler so blatantly obvious! People have been researching Gwen Stacy, so tons of them have obviously seen the outfit she’s wearing when she dies

I’m not so sure about this. The attention to detail is almost a red herring–that’s an iconic panel, granted, but it’s hard for me to believe that she’s wearing it because it is that scene being shown. I doubt that even Marc Webb would be that on-point with the actual story if he were establishing that scene, especially considering Hollywood’s tendency to take creative liberties with stories.

Considering all the “teaser” images Mark Webb has been posting online pertaining to Amazing Spider-Man 2 (*cough* Venom *cough*), I wouldn’t be surprised if this were a red herring designed specifically to make news. On the other hand, most comic fans knew right from the start that Gwen Stacy was destined to be killed. Whether it happens in this sequel or the third film doesn’t change the fact that it most likely will happen.

Personally I would find the death of Gwen Stacy to be too much for a film already packed with the introductions of Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn, Mary Jane, The Rhino, Electro, and possibly Venom. It almost seems like Webb is filming two movies instead of one.
