Dear Shenani-Girl: Lonely In Gotham
It’s the holiday season and as it turns out, Shenani-Girl has a little bit of time on her hands to answer your questions. Whether they’re about comics, life, movies, various geekery or other things, get your questions into Shenanigans for a brand-new Dear Abby style column that’ll be up as frequently as our podcasting superhero can handle. You can send in your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org or via Shenani-Girl’s Tumblr page (all responses from Tumblr will be posted on the site).
Our very first question is this:
How do I land a geek girlfriend?
-Lonely in Gotham
Dear Lonely in Gotham,
Aw shucks… being single can really suck, but my best advice for you is don’t limit yourself to geek girls. There are plenty of other people out there that you’re probably compatible with and saying you want a geek girlfriend is shutting down the potential for someone else who may not fit into your idea of a “geek girl”.
With that being said, if you REALLY want to find yourself a girl that’s into comics, video games, cool movies etc., the best thing to do is to be yourself.
If you spot a cute girl at a comic book store, don’t be the weirdo who just follows her around smiling creepily. Either nut up and ask the gal out or don’t, but don’t be the person to make her feel awkward and uncomfortable in a place that’s typically not always the friendliest to women. Ask her out to have a coffee so you can talk about your interests and that sort of thing. Asking her to a movie or somewhere where you can’t really talk right off the bat is a no-no. Hopefully she says yes and then you’re on your way to getting yourself a geek gal girlfriend.
