The Road to SDCC: Wednesday Schedule & Preview Night

Comic-Con_logoLate last week San Diego Comic-Con released their Wednesday schedule alongside their Thursday schedule, officially giving us the beachhead for SDCC 2012. Wednesday evening is Preview Night, giving privileged attendees the chance to sneak in early to nab prized exclusives, it’s also pilot night. Come check out why people get a hold of Preview Night and what’s playing this year!

This year we have the following pilots:

6:00-9:45 Special Sneak Peek Pilot Screenings—

666 Park Avenue

Arrow

The Following

Revolution

Cult

Ballroom 20

I’ve talked a lot about Arrow, but after checking out some of the backstories behind the other pilots they seem just as enticing. So far there’s only a plot synopsis attached to each but the buzz for each is enough to draw attention. 666 Park Avenue is a supernatural drama featuring a murder-house-like apartment complex that tortures and feeds on it’s tenants controlled by none other than Lost star Terry O’Quinn. The Following, as briefly described by SDCC, is, “a cat-and-mouse thriller from Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries), about a diabolical serial killer (James Purefoy) and the psychologically scarred ex-FBI agent (Kevin Bacon) called in to stop him.” Cult would appear to be a crime noir drama centered crafted by talents from Farscape and Chuck; I enjoyed both of those shows enough to give this one a try. Lastly we have Revolution, when I read about Jon Favreau and J.J. Abram’s Bad Robot in the mix I know it’s time to go, “eyes forward.”

None of those got your attention? That’s alright, we’ve only just covered the upstairs that evening. About 90% of the action going on during Preview Night is happening in the exhibit hall, and for very good reason. There’s been undoubtedly a lot of chatter regarding this year’s exclusives, as there is every year, ranging from how to get them and what their potential resale value might be. Preview Night is when all those discussions cease and everyone starts grabbing. I wouldn’t worry about anything running out during Preview Night but it’s a very slippy slope after that and especially after Thursday.

No exclusives? That’s fine too because, and this is personally my favorite aspect of Preview Night, the artists also come out to enjoy the evening. This can be a good chance to talk to artists and get prized signatures and doodles that they would normally be too busy for during regular convention hours and days. Some artists might not be present or prepared, but more likely than not a majority will be present and awaiting attendees.

That wraps up our Wednesday Schedule and Preview Night, tune in tomorrow when we dig deep on Thursday’s schedule!
