Review: Suicide Squad #1

Suicide Squad #1

The John Ostrander Suicide Squad ran 66 issues back in the 90s and was one of my favorite books. It was “The Dirty Dozen” every week, with a bunch of super (and some not-so-super) villains being given a chance to whittle away their sentences if they helped on some dangerous below-the-radar missions. Not everyone walked away.

Now Suicide Squad is back, and Glass has given it a much darker edge, but it absolutely works. The current Squad lineup (Deadshot, Harley Quinn, El Diablo, King Shark, Black Spider, Voltaic and Savant) is eclectic and diverse, however the dangerous vibe is paramount throughout. Some characters are focused on more than others, but there’s so much packed in to this #1 that I find it hard to place blame.
